It is my honor to welcome everyone to Eva Gordon Upper Elementary School. I am very excited about the 2019-2020 school year. The faculty, staff, and I will strive to provide a safe educational environment where learning takes place at all times. Our goal is to academically and socially expand and grow all of our students to individual levels of excellence. One of my greatest joys in life is being an educator. MS Public Health Institute Resources

Parents and Families,

The MS Public Health Institute (MSPHI) has compiled resources to provide resources to families.  Resources are grouped into  three categories:

  • Information for Parents, Teachers, and Principals on how to explain and cope with infectious disease outbreaks like we are currently experiencing

  • Information for Parents, Teachers/Principals, or any adults working with our youth that can be used as tips for talking to them about substance abuse or as reference sheets for accurate information about different substances (alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and prescription drugs).

  • A series of informative documents entitled, “The Truth about _______”. This packet contains information useful to teens as they struggle to decipher the truth from all the rumors about different substances.
Learning At-Home Resources

Mississippi Department of Education Compiles Learning-at-Home Resources

JACKSON, Miss. –  The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has compiled a host of learning-at-home resources for students in pre-K through grade 12 to support student learning during the extended school closure. The resources are available online at

The learning-at-home resources do not replace what children have learned at school, but instead, help students practice the skills and strategies taught by their teachers. The resources are intended to help parents and caregivers engage students in continued education.

MDE content specialists have selected all resources, which include dedicated webpages for students in pre-K-grade 1, grades 2-3, grades 4-5, grades 6-8 and grades 9-12. Also, resources for students with visual or hearing impairments are available and guidance on social-emotional learning.

During this unusual time of extended school closures nationwide, it is important that students continue to read, write, and engage in social studies, science and math activities.

Important Update on COVID-19

South Pike School District COVID-19 Update

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The safety of our students and employees is of great importance to us. The South Pike School District will follow the guidance from the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) and Mississippi Department of Health (MSDH) and put measures in place for the prevention of the spread of the Coronavirus and the protection of our students, staff, and our community. The MDE will provide daily updates to school districts about the coronavirus (COVID-19). All MDE updates will be posted at

We will increase disinfectant use that is labeled to control and eliminate the Coronavirus in all school facilities. We will also increase our efforts to raise awareness of general precautions to control contagious diseases. This includes but is not limited to education and providing more opportunities for hand washing and sanitizers.

We are encouraging all stakeholders to assist us by taking proactive measures to protect themselves from respiratory illness with everyday preventive actions such as:

  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.

  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or using an alcohol-based had sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority. Thank you for your assistance and continued support during this time.

Donna Scott, Ph.D. Superintendent
