Question (Q):  What is career & technical education?
Answer (A):  Career & technical education is occupational training which prepares a person for gainful employment that is beneficial to society.
Q:  How much does it cost to take a career & technical course?
A:  There is no cost to take a career & technical class, but school insurance is required for all career & technical classes.
Q:  Where is the career & technical center?
A:  The career & technical center is located behind the South Pike Educational Services building and is across from the band hall at the high school - 252 West Bay Street, Magnolia, Mississippi.
Q:  What student organizations can students participate in at the career & technical center?
A:
  • FBLA - Future Business Leaders of America
  • FFA - Future Farmers of America
  • Skills USA/VICA - Vocational Industrial Clubs of America
  • HOSA - Health Occupations Students of America
  • NTHS - National Technical Honor Society

 

Q:  When can students enroll in a career & technical course?
A:  Generally it is best to begin a two-year career & technical program in the 11th grade.  However, when space permits, 10th graders may be permitted to enroll.
Q:  Are students required to take a career & technical course for two years?
A:  To receive the full benefit of the program, it is recommended that students attend both years.
Q:  Do credits earned at the career & technical center count toward high school graduation?
A:  Yes, career & technical credits go toward meeting the elective units needed for graduation.  Allied Health, Business & Computer Technology, Building Trades and Metal Trades each earn 2 credits per year.  Allied Health and Concepts of AgriScience Technology count as a science credit needed to meet graduation requirements.
Q:  Can students meet college board requirements and take a career & technical course?
A:  Yes, students should start planning at the 9th grade to fit all courses in.  See Mrs. McGhee for a four year individual education plan.
Q:  What extra benefits fo career & technical students receive?
A:  Small classes allow students to receive more attention from teachers.  Working in the shops or lab areas provides students with actual hands-on work experience.
