PROGRAM DESCRIPTION EARLY CHILDHOOD SERVICES AND EDUCATION Early Childhood Services and Education is an instructional program designed to provide training in the area of childcare and development. The first year of the program is designed as an introduction to the childcare profession focusing on child development, guidance and behavior, health and safety, and age-appropriate activities. A field experience is included in this course. Upon completion of this first year, the student should be competent as an assistant caregiver. This course is taught for one year, and it earns 2.0 Carnegie Units. The emphasis of the second year is primarily to provide advanced skills in the field of childcare and development. Students will gain advanced competencies related to professional childcare skills, safe and healthy learning environments, program planning, and management. An enhanced field experience is included in this course. This course is taught for one year, and it earns 2.0 to 2.5 Carnegie Units. The Child Development Associate teaching strategies are integrated in this curriculum and the National Association for the Education of Young Children Standards are introduced. |
