NATIONAL GEAR UP CONFERENCE
We have a wonderful opportunity for our students to participate in the National GEAR UP conference July 21-25, 2007, in San Francisco as part of a Youth Leadership Summit this summer. The goal of the summit is to allow students to voice their opinions, concerns, and suggestions about education. Students also will have time to go sight seeing in San Francisco. This is an all-expense paid trip.
Thirty students from GEAR UP programs across the United States will be selected to attend the summit. These students will work as a team to create a summit report. This report will help business and community leaders, policymakers, and educators understand the issues that students believe to be important for improving student success.
During the summit, students will engage in active discussions regarding the challenges and successes facing education today, students also will participate in leadership development, teambuilding, and brainstorming sessions, while working towards creating their summit report. At the end of the summit, the students are given the stage to voice their opinions and share their ideas. Applications for the 2007 Youth Leadership Summit are now available.
All GEAR UP students are encouraged to apply. For more information talk to our school site coordinator today. |
