Pike County Court House
Settled in 1810, Magnolia became the county seat in 1872, just 13 years after  being incorporated in 1859. Magnolia was established in 1856 by cotton planter Ansel H. Prewitt.  Mary Sinnot gave Magnolia its name because of the abundance of beautiful Magnolia trees growing in the town.  At the time of the 2000 Census, Magnolia boasted a population of 2,071 residents.  This constitutes only 5.32% of Pike County’s entire population of 38,940.  Magnolia enjoys the prestige of having over 50 structures on the National Register of Historic Places.
